12 must-have accessories when traveling with a baby + travel tips! Being a new mom I always have a little anxiety about how Miss Atlee will behave or if its the right place to bring her, will she be too warm, do I have the right things packed. Being prepared is my forte and trying new things out and discovering good (and completely horrible) products is something I love to do! We recently took a road trip down to Florida and I packed quite a bit of things I “thought” I needed to get through. Here’s the best baby products for a road trip – COVID Style ;).
We started our road trip from Minnesota heading to Florida. With lots of hand sanitizer in had, we set out to our halfway point of Missouri. Atlee is just two months old so traveling with a newborn I thought would be tough especially since we were trying to minimize her risk and not bring her in any gas stations. Our Parker Baby Diaper bag was amazing. We loved all the storage pockets to hold her baby bottles, diapers, burp rags, and the best part is I love supporting small businesses and this one was an easy purchase to do just that!
For our road trip, I purchased two Boon Tripod Formula Containers. This was perfect mixing bottles in the car. Atlee loves her bottles warm so I had also purchased the Munchkin Travel Car Baby Bottle Warmer. This thing was absolute junk! I should have read reviews before I purchased it but I literally took it out of the box and plugged it into the cigarette lighter (for hours) and it never once got hot. So we had to stop at a Walmart and pick up a small bottle warmer, plug it into a converter, and heat the bottle up. I have now invested in the Baby’s brew bottle warmer after this fiasco…WORTH EVERY PENNY.
Changing the babes in the car was not bad at all. I have long legs so we used the changing mat that came with the Parker Baby backpack and changed her on my lap! PRO TIP… Size up with diapers if you are close to the next size. Blowouts on the road are ROUGH! We realized early on we needed a portable sound machine while in the car so we bought the Skip Hop sound machine. When she needed a nap we would turn the sound machine, cover her with our Aden + Anais car seat canopy, and she would fall right asleep!
We arrived in Florida Sunday for a week full of fun! We didn’t have a lot of room so we packed light for sleeping & things for Atlee to be comfortable. We loved using our Fisher-Price On-The-Go baby dome & Dock a Tot. We were able to move Atlee around the house to take naps with the dock-a-tot and take the dome down to the beach for her to relax.
While on the beach with the babes we brought an umbrella, the dome, and a portable fan to keep her cool! This worked wonders. I would recommend getting a fan that has a clip on the bottom and is battery operated. Ours, we purchased only held a charge for an hour and we felt we always had to keep recharging it! We also loved Atlees UPF hat we bought off Amazon and her UPF swimsuit from Target! I didn’t want her to have any sun exposure so having these items made a huge difference.
Feeding was a breeze as we brought our Baby Brezza machine to make her bottles and had a portable drying rack that made things really convenient. I would say honestly there wasn’t anything else I thought I was missing. We did bring our evenflo stroller base. We didn’t leave the house much but if we had we would have used this quite a bit. Our car seat fits right into it so It would have been nice if we were in and out.
All in all, I realized it was pretty easy to travel with an infant across the country and during a global pandemic. You have to think differently but that is our new way of life. It shouldn’t stop you from doing what you love. Be safe and smart while you travel and you shouldn’t have any trouble!
