One weekend during winter months places around Lake Okoboji open back up for a fun-filled weekend full of games. People from all over come to participate in the University of Okoboji Winter Games. They have everything from a bean bag tournament to broomball, flag football, and snow softball to mega snow pong. They even put on a Polar Plunge where many people fundraise for a good cause. These are just a few of the many events they have planned for the weekend on and off the ice.
Many of the bars around the area have specials and events going on throughout the weekend as well. One of my favorites during the day is The Ritz. They have a drink called the Fish Bowl and it is one you definitely want to share. This drink also comes in many different flavors. They have a patio you can sit on that over-looks the lake or you can enjoy the nice warm comfort of being inside. This year they had snow softball going on right outside on the lake that we enjoyed watching while sipping on our fishbowls. At night the bars are usually packed but my favorite at night is the The Garden’s. You can buy a wristband for the whole weekend or just a day pass. This is one of my favorites because they usually have a live band playing and many people there to have a good time.

We always stay at the West Oaks Resort but if you want a place to stay near the lake you need to book early. This event is a favorite to many and I go every chance I get since I first went several years back. You will never have a dull moment and there will always be something to do. All across the lake and off the lake there are things going on and people go back and forth from one thing to another. I have met so many fun people here . It’s also cool because you can participate in how ever much you want or just go and watch and have a good time (which is what I do). I heard it is just as fun in the summer and would love to go sometime and check it out when it’s not so cold.
