Today I had my first boat run experience, it was one of the coolest things I have ever been a part of! Dan’s sister Shannon and her husband Nick bought a huge boat this year and thankfully they let us tag along with them on the run. We started off by entering into the run at a place called The Warf.
It was $20 to enter the run and at every bar, you had to pick a card out of the deck. At the end whoever had the best hand won money!! Once we were done entering into the run we took off on the boat to the next bar called Manhattan Beach. This is where we met up with some of Nick and Shannon’s friends. The little bar was so packed we were not able to dock. We ended up dropping Shannon off to get some of their signature drinks called a Manhattan Lemonade, they were amazing!
Next, we took the boat out to the sandbar. My favorite part of the day was getting to this sandbar! All the boats took off at once and it was like nothing I have ever seen before. These boats are MASSIVE with huge motors. INSERT VIDEO After the fast ride was over we got to the sandbar where we listened to music, played catch and sat on the boat and hung out with everyone.
Last stop was Moonlight Bay where we turned in our poker cards. This place was amazing! They had a huge patio with an outside bar where they served us pizza. We hung around for a while because Dan ended up having a really good hand and could potentially win some money. As we were hanging out I had the opportunity to meet a lot of Dan’s family and my favorite was talking with his grandpa. After hanging out for a while Dan ended up 1 card off from winning some money! Once everything was over we ended up leaving and making our way back to Dan’s grandparent’s place. Nick took us for a couple of hot laps in the boat which at that point I was on cloud nine! Not going to lie I was death gripping the handles to hold on and thought I was going to die but in the end, it was the best experience ever!
Once we got back to Dan’s grandparent’s place we all noticed their grandpa had a wooden boat. I’m not talking about a shitty boat put together by wood. It was a classic boat that is a collector boat. It didn’t take us very long to convince him to take us out for a ride! Dan’s grandpa used to race speed boats and that is how Dan’s whole family got into boating. As we got back from the ride which was amazing the grandpa said: “wow that was the most fun I had in years on a boat”. This made my night, he is so darn cute!
All in all, this was an amazing experience. Being apart of this boat run was something I never thought existed and opened my eyes to a whole new adventure. I understand you need a boat to be a part of this experience but I if you didn’t I would suggest going to one of these bars while this is going on and watch all of these massive speed boats come into the docks. This is a day I will never forget!
