A Little Dirt Never Hurt Anybody!

Saturday September 14th, 2019 we took our new side by side out on the trails up north to Sturgeon Lake (the city) for a day trip. We went with a group of friends that have done this before so they had an idea of where to go and what to see. We started the day off at Doc’s Sports Bar & Grill. They have a massive parking lot where you can park your truck and trailer while you are out riding. You can also park a camper in the parking lot if you decide to have a couple cocktails and can’t drive home!

We started our day off with Doc’s famous bloody mary, I had the one with the ribs! It was honestly one of the best bloodys I have ever had! As we were sitting there enjoying our drinks the owners of the bar brought us a map and helped us plan our route on the trails. We finished our drinks and made our way to pack up our side by side.

The trail goes right through the backyard of Doc’s you can’t miss it and we made our way south. It just got done raining for 4 days before Saturday so there was TONS of puddles. We didn’t care about getting muddy so we were smashing into all of them! We rode for awhile until we hit our first stop in the town of Willow River where we ate at Squirrel Cage Bar Grill. The waitress was unbelievably crabby so that was a bit of a damper but the food ended up being cheap and good! This was a great stop and it isn’t hard to find!

We left the Squirrel Cage and got back on the trail and found a pit where tons of ATV’s where just rippin around and having fun! One of the guys we were with ended up tipping over a band new Can-Am side by side but luckily nobody got hurt! I was ripping around with him and ended up getting out of the side by side right before he tipped it over, close call!

After we finished up at the pit we headed to see this really pretty bridge called Kettle River Bridge. We had to take the soo-line trail to get to it. This trail is very straight and wide so you can go real fast on it! As we got to the bridge it ended up being well worth the trip, it was beautiful! At this point we turned around and made our way back to Doc’s, it was getting later in the afternoon.

On our way back we stopped at Logan Lake where we enjoyed some of the sunset and took a bathroom break. We took off again for Doc’s and it started raining on the way back! Dan and I had a half windshield and no roof so we were getting pounded with rain!

We made it back to Doc’s and enjoyed supper. The owners of the bar treated us so well. They are very friendly, caring and all around great people. This bar exceeded my expectations! They had a prime rib special which was fantastic and we had there homemade pizza which was also amazing! I had my first ever Crown Royal Regal Apple mixed with cranberry juice, it was unreal!

All in all, this day ended up being amazing. We had a great group of people that know how to have a good time. If we could do it all over again we wouldn’t change a thing, besides maybe making a weekend out of it!
