Road trips, road trips road trips… Wow do I just enjoy them. Our road trip down to Nashville was nothing short of a good time. 5 vehicles, packed full of girls for a weekend in music city has been on our bucket list for a while. Now that all of our friends are over the legal drinking age it was time to head on down (you can go anywhere cool in Nashville if you are not 21). We hit the tar around 3pm on on a Wednesday after work and headed south out of Minnesota and into Iowa. We had googled a bunch of different landmarks we wanted to see but one stood out while searching. We stumbled upon a few caves in Iowa called Maquoketa Caves State Park. So worth the stop. With multiple caves to walk through we could have spent hours hiking and taking in the scenery. With limited time we loaded back up and hit the road to meet our cousin for supper and crash at his new house. We woke up bright and early and hit the road finishing off our stretch to Nashville. We arrived at our hotel around 5:00, threw our bags in the room, and took off. We were not wasting any time in this amazing town. Walking broadway you didn’t know where to look. Live music was everywhere and what was even better was every window in the street was open so you could get a glimpse of the music from the street, drawing you in. The food was amazing in Nashville with multiple places to eat. We found this little diner called “The Broken Egg Cafe”. We heard it was the place to go but being up so late we never woke up early enough so we ate across the street every morning. One of my best meals in Nashville was actually at Florida Georgia Line Bar. Their mac and cheese was THE BEST I have ever had. During the day we spend touring around the town, hurricane Harvey had hit the US a few days before so it was raining our entire trip. We rented a bus (that did not have a top on it) and rode that for a few hours and it rained the entire time. We had a blast going up and down the streets, listening to country, and enjoying each others presence. One of our favorite hang out spots was the George Jones Bar. The second floor was all lit up, windows open, and it overlooked the river. There was live country music there every night and the staff was incredible. Definitely would recommend this stop in Nashville. Our last day in Nashville was spent touring the Grand Ol Opry and driving by Alan Jackson’s beautiful home (yes, we know kind of creepy, but we love him!). One thing we tried to find was a few of the Nashville murals. We were successful finding a few, but the others were a little more difficult to find. The Gulch was also an area we toured on our last day. This was a great hang out area for the younger population with lots of patio bars and niche restaurants. Our drive home was very quiet. Being worn out from all the walking and late nights touring the town was all worth it. I could see us making this an annual girls trip!
